Qatar Open 2013 logoThe 2013 Qatar Open in Doha is being played for the 11th time and the second year as one of only five WTA Premier FIVE category tournaments, which makes it the second of the “BIG 14″ WTA tournaments each year. In 2013 Doha is officially named the 2013 Qatar Total Open. Doha literally means “the big tree” and is the capital city of Qatar situated on the coast of the Persian Gulf.

Doha is and this year is being held at the Khalifa International Tennis Complex in Doha, Qatar. The court surface is Plexipave hard courts and the total prize money for this 2013 WTA event is $2,369,000 of which $426,000 will be awarded to the women’s singles champion.

Doha runs from the first day of qualifying on Saturday 9 February through to the Women’s Singles Final on Sunday 17 February. The 2012 women’s singles champion was No.1 seed Victoria AZARENKA who defeated No.3 seed Samantha STOSUR in the final 6-1 6-2 to win her 12th WTA singles title and earn 900 WTA ranking points.
