The 2012 Qatar Open women’s main draw singles quarter final matches will begin on Friday 17 February at 3:30pm local time in Doha, Qatar. The second MAJOR tournament of the “BIG 14″ events in 2012 has 8 players left vying for this prestigious title, 900 WTA ranking points and $385,000 in prize money. The official tournament name is the Qatar TOTAL Open due to title sponsorship naming rights.

Four of the Top 8 seeds won through to the quarter final stage to live up to their seeding and all four of them are seeded amongst the Top 5 seeds. The only other seed in the last 16 was dual Grand Slam singles champion Svetlana Kuznetsova at No.14 who was upset by the current World No.28 Lucie SAFAROVA. The left-handed Safarova of the Czech Republic also knocked out No.2 seed Caroline Wozniacki in the previous round.
