Indian Wells is a WTA Premier Mandatory category tournament played on Plexipave hard courts from March 6 to 18. The official tournament name is the BNP Paribas Open due to title sponsorship naming rights. As soon as it is drawn OnCourt Advantage will add the names into the projected 3rd round match-ups for the seeds and post the full singles main draw here-> The 2012 Indian Wells Open Women’s Singles Draw: 1st Round.

The Seeds: In a 128-player sized draw there are 32 seeded players in order to keep the 1 seed for each 4 spots in the draw ratio according to tournament draw rules. Indian Wells has a 96-player draw so the seeds all receive a BYE in the 1st round and await the 32 winners of the 1st round matches in the 2nd round. Only the 64 players who are unseeded play in the first round and the 32 winners of the first round take on the 32 seeds in the 2nd round.

The seeds are selected according to the latest WTA rankings before the draw is made i.e. as of 27 February 2012. The Top 32 ranked players in the draw at that date become the Top 32 seeds; therefore the seeding can be worked out before it is officially announced. No.10 Andrea PETKOVIC and No.11 Serena WILLIAMS have been announced as not being able to compete due to injuries.
