So that more professional tennis players come to Singapore in the future we REALLY need to encourage EVERYONE to support and attend this one-off tennis event. The format for the Singapore women’s singles tournament pits 6 of the Top 30 ranked women in the world to compete for the Singapore tennis title. All matches are best-of-3 sets with the Top 2 seed receiving a BYE into the semi finals. The next four highest ranked players will battle it out in the quarter finals on Friday December 16 to earn the rite to challenge the Top 2 seeds for a spot in the final. The semi finals will be played on Saturday 17 December and the battle for 3rd place will be held prior to the Championship Match on Sunday 18 December.
Pictured above is the former World No.5 Daniela HANTUCHOVA almost at the precise moment for the critical contact point between the ball for this forehand groundstroke during the Carlsbad Mercury Insurance Open in August this year. Hantuchova’s best Grand Slam singles result thus far in her career was making the semi finals of the 2008 Australian Open plus she reached the quarter finals on another three occasions at the US Open, Wimbledon and Australian Open.
The 1.81m Slovakian is the No.5 seed in Singapore, which means her first match will be on Friday 16 December in the knock-out quarter final stage. Make sure you get your tickets for that day to guarantee you do not miss your chance to see her demonstrating her beautiful all-court style of play in Singapore.
The No.2 ranked player from Slovakia can certainly mix it with the best in the world. In fact, at the 2011 French Open at Roland Garros Hantuchova defeated the No.1 seed 6-1 6-3. Hantuchova has beaten 13-time Grand Slam singles champion Serena Williams at the Australian Open, 7-time Grand Slam singles champion Venus Williams in their most recent match earlier this year and has also defeated 3-time Grand Slam singles champion Maria Sharapova.
