The 2012 Shanghai Open is the eighth of the nine ATP Tour Masters 1000 tournaments each year on the men’s pro tennis tour. The official name of the Shanghai Open due to title sponsorship naming rights is the Shanghai Rolex Masters.

Shanghai is the only Masters 1000 tournament outside of Europe and North America each year and was the host for the year-end ATP Tour Finals from 2005 to 2008. I encourage you to “Follow” the Shanghai Open on Twitter like I do. The official handle is @SHRolexMasters. Please “Like” the official Facebook page just as I do by pasting: into your address bar then click “Like” once you are there.

This tournament is held at the Qi Zhong Tennis Center in the southwest Shanghai district of Minhang in China on Deco-turf hard courts. The Qi Zhong Stadium centre court has a 15,000 seating capacity, the total prize money for 2012 is US$ 3,531,600 and this tournament was first held in 2009.

This tournament runs from Saturday 6 October to Sunday 14 October. The men’s singles qualifying event is being held on Saturday and Sunday October 6-7. The main draw singles event runs from Sunday 7 October through to the Singles Final day on Sunday 14 October.

The 2011 men’s singles champion was No.2 seed Andy MURRAY who defeated No.3 seed David FERRER in the final 7-5 6-4.
