The 2012 Wimbledon tennis championships are the third of only four Grand Slam tournaments held each year. Wimbledon is also known as “The Championships” and is the only Grand Slam played on natural grass courts. Wimbledon has always been held at the All England Lawn Tennis Club (AELTC) by the British Lawn Tennis Association (LTA).

The Wimbledon centre court is simply named Centre Court and underwent renovations to install a retractable roof in time for the 2009 event. Centre Court has a 15,000 seating capacity, the total financial commitment for 2012 is £16,100,000 (pounds sterling) and this tournament was first held in 1887.
This tournament is one of the “BIG 14″ MAJOR prestigious events and runs from the first day of qualifying on Monday 18 June through to Men’s Singles Final day on Sunday 8 July.
The 2011 women’s singles champion was Petra KVITOVA who defeated former champion Maria Sharapova in the final 6-3, 6-4 to win 2,000 WTA ranking points. The 2011 singles champion was Novak DJOKOVIC who defeated former champion Rafael Nadal in the final 6-4, 6-1, 1-6, 6-3 to win 2,000 ATP ranking points.
