Wimbledon 2013 Women’s Seeds: Singles Draw

June 17, 2013

in Grand Slams: Wimbledon

The women’s singles draw at Wimbledon has a different seeding system than all of the other women’s tournaments, which OnCourt Advantage will explain in this post. The full list of 32 seeds for Wimbledon 2013 is listed below.

The seeding for the Wimbledon women’s singles draw is based on the latest WTA rankings before the draw is made i.e. today, 17 June 2013. The only exception to following the order of merit is when the Seeding Committee decide changes are necessary “to make a more balanced draw”.

The Top 32 ranked players in the draw become the most likely Top 32 seeds. Last year the Wimbledon seeding committee decided NOT to change either to former Wimbledon champion Venus WILLIAMS (pictured above), then ranked No.55 and former Grand Slam champion Kim Clijsters (then ranked No.53) to make a more balanced draw by upgrading them into seeds.

It will be very interesting to see whether any players get promoted up above the order of merit from the WTA rankings. The 5-time Wimbledon champion Venus Williams who currently narrowly misses out on a seeding, would have the highest probability of being bumped up from the those not already making the cut. In 2011 Serena Williams was changed up from World No.26 to be the 7th seed and Venus Williams from No.33 to be the 23rd seed.

If any of the Top 32 players withdraw with injury OnCourt Advantage will update you by listing them here-> …

In this case, the next highest ranked players in line to be seeded are: World No.33 Klara Zakopalova, No.34 Venus Williams, 35. Julia Goerges, No.36 Elena Vesnina and No.37 and No.1 from the United Kingdom: the 19-year-old Laura Robson.

The players names that are bolded below are the eight women among the 32 seeds who have won at least one Grand Slam singles title thus far.
