The 2013 US Open Tennis women’s qualifying singles event is scheduled to begin on Tuesday 20 August and runs for four straight days with play commencing at 11am (local time) each day. OnCourt Advantage provides some interesting facts about the women’s qualifying draw below.

Make sure you go and enjoy the qualifying event where play kicks off at 11am each day and entry is free of charge. I always enjoyed watching the qualifying at the Australian Open, especially on the final day when you can feel the emotions of the players as their whole trip and hopes are on the line, with a spot in the singles main draw the coveted reward.

As soon as the qualifying draw is announced on Monday 19 August it will be covered and listed in US Open Tennis Qualifying 2013 Women’s 1st Round.

Olga PUCHKOVA is pictured visually tracking the ball into the contact with point for her favourite shot, the double-handed backhand ground stroke as the ball jams in far closer to her body than she would like during the 2012 US Open.

The 1.8m Puchkova was the best performed qualifier at the US Open last year by reaching the third round in her career-best Grand Slam result and first Grand Slam main draw matches since the 2008 Australian Open! The 25-year-old Puchkova achieved her career-high ranking to date of No.32 in June of 2007. Puchkova is currently ranked No.74 after spending a few years outside the Top 100 and is the No.8 Russian women presently.

The US Open women’s qualifying singles event is a 128-player draw divided up between 9 wildcards and 119 direct acceptances in an elimination format with 16 spots allocated to qualifiers. There are 32 seeds in the qualifying, which are the highest 32 ranked players who made the cut-off on Monday 19 August according to the WTA rankings as at Monday 19 August.

The first round of qualifying is scheduled to be completed on the first two days i.e. Tuesday 20 and Wednesday 21 August. The 64 first round winners then play in the second round on Thursday 22 August for a spot in the third and final round, known as “The Qualifying Round” on Friday 23 August.
