The Road to Australian Open 2011: Men’s Singles

The 2011 Australian Open is the first major tournament of the year on the men’s professional tennis tour. In preparation to peak at the Australian Open players will choose different paths to gain enough form and match play. The following men’s singles tournaments make up the road to the Australian Open.

In order of when they commence they are:

  1. Brisbane International – in Brisbane Australia from December 31 to January 9.
  2. Aircel Chennai Open – in Chennai, India from January 1 to 9.
  3. Qatar ExxonMobil Open – in Doha, Qatar from January 1 to 9.
  4. Hyundai Hopman Cup – in Perth, Australia from January 1 to 8.
  5. Heineken Open - in Auckland, New Zealand from January 8 to 15.
  6. Medibank International – in Sydney, Australia from January 9 to 15.
  7. AAMI Kooyong Classic – in Melbourne, Australia from January 12 to 15.
  8. Australian Open – in Melbourne, Australia from January 12-30.

  1. The 2011 Brisbane International is an ATP World Tour 250 category tournament, played at the Queensland Tennis Centre on hard courts in Queensland, Australia. The qualifying singles event is held on December 31 and January 1. The 32-player main draw event runs from January 2 to 9. To buy tickets click here. The total prize money is AUD $372,500 and the total Financial Commitment is AUD $454,050. The Men’s Singles Final will be played on Sunday January 9 with the winner earning 250 ATP ranking points and $73,000.   4. The 2011 Hopman Cup is the ITF Mixed Team Championships exhibition tournament played at Western Australia’s Burswood Dome in Perth, Australia on an indoor hard court. This 8-team round robin event runs from January 1 to 8. To buy tickets click here. The total prize money is AUD $1,000,000 and the Final between the winner of Group A and Group B will be played on Saturday January 8 at 3pm with the winning country sharing $240,000. The Men’s Singles Final will be played on Saturday January 15 at 3pm with the winner earning 250 ATP ranking points and $67,260.
