The 2012 Stuttgart Open is the only WTA tennis tournament in Germany each year and is one of only six WTA Premier 700 category tournaments. The unique tradition at this tournament each year is that in addition to the winners prize money to the winner, the singles champion also wins a Porsche 911 Carrera sports car.

The 2012 tournament is being held at the Porsche Arena in Stuttgart, Germany. Since 2009 the court surface has been changed to red clay and became an indoor tournament making it the first WTA indoor clay court tournament. 2012 is the 35th consecutive year of this event being held.

This tournament runs from Saturday 21 April to Sunday 29 April. The women’s singles qualifying event is being held on Saturday and Sunday April 21 and 22. The main draw singles event runs from Monday 23 April through to the Women’s Singles Final day on Sunday 29 April. 

The 2011 women’s singles champion was the unseeded Julia GOERGES who defeated No.1 seed Caroline WOZNIACKI in the final 7-6 (7-3), 6-3 to win her first Stuttgart singles title and her 2nd WTA singles title.
