The 2012 St. Petersburg Open is one of 41 ATP Tour 250 category tournaments and one of two tournaments held in Russia each year.

The 2012 tournament is being held on indoor hard courts at the Peterburgsky Sport Complex in St.Petersburg in Russia for the 18th straight year. The centre court seating capacity is 9,000 and this event was first held in 1995.

This tournament runs from Saturday 15 to Sunday 23 September. The qualifying singles event is held on Saturday and Sunday 15 and 16 September. The main draw singles event runs from Monday 17 September through to the Men’s Singles Finals day on Sunday 23 September. 

The 2011 men’s singles champion was  No.4 seed Marin CILIC who defeated No.2 seed Janko TIPSAREVIC in the final 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 to win his sixth ATP singles title.
