The 2012 Monterrey Open is a WTA International category tournament that was first played in 2009. The official name of this event is the Whirlpool Abierto Monterrey due to title sponsorship naming rights.

The 4th year of this event is being played at the Taquillas de Sierra Madre Tennis Club in San Pedro Garza Garcia, Mexico on hard courts. The centre court is called Cancha Estadio and has a capacity of 2,000 spectators. The total prize money for the 2012 women’s tournament is $220,000.
This tournament runs from Saturday 18 February to Sunday 19 February for the qualifying singles event. The main draw singles event runs from Monday 20 February through to the Women’s Singles Final day on Sunday 26 February.
The 2011 Monterrey Open women’s singles champion was No.2 seed Anastasia PAVLYUCHENKOVA who defeated the No.1 seed Jelena JANKOVIC in the final 2-6, 6-2, 6-3 to win a back-to-back titles at Monterrey.
