The 2012 Kooyong AAMI Classic tennis tournament in Melbourne, Australia provides the crucial preparation for eight of the world’s best male players as they endeavour to peak at the first Grand Slam event of the year in the same city, in the same environment and on the exact same court surface as the Australian Open.
The Kooyong Classic is being held at the Kooyong Lawn Tennis Club in Hawthorn in Victoria on blue Plexicushion Prestige hard courts. The centre court is called the Kooyong Stadium and holds 9,500 spectators. This tournament was first held in 1988 in it’s present status and was the former home of the Australian Open Grand Slam tournament from 1972 to 1987.
This tournament is a men’s exhibition tournament and runs from Wednesday 11 January through to the Men’s Singles Finals day on Saturday 14 January. The 2011 men’s singles champion was Lleyton HEWITT who defeated Gael Monfils in the final 7-6, 6-3.
