The 2012 Dubai Open is one of only two ATP tennis tournaments in the Middle East. The Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships are one of only five WTA Premier 700 category tournaments each year. For the men, Dubai is one of eleven ATP World Tour 500 category tournaments each year.

The Dubai Open is being held at the Aviation Club Tennis Centre in Dubai, United Arab Emirates on Deco turf II hard courts. The centre court is called the Dubai Tennis Stadium and holds 5,000 spectators. The men’s event was first held in 1993, whereas the women’s event was first held in 2001. The women’s event runs from Saturday 18 December through to the Women’s Singles Final day on Saturday 25 February. The men’s event runs from Saturday 25 February through to the Men’s Singles Final day on Saturday 3 March.
The 2011 women’s singles champion was Caroline WOZNIACKI who defeated dual Grand Slam singles champion Svetlana Kuznetsova in the final 6-1, 6-3. The 2011 men’s singles champion was Novak DJOKOVIC who defeated Roger FEDERER in the final 6-3, 6-3 to win his third straight Dubai Open and move to one Dubai Open title less than Federer has won.
