The 2013 Auckland Open tennis tournaments are the only WTA and ATP Tour event held in New Zealand each year. Auckland is classified as a WTA International and ATP Tour 250 category tournament. The official name of the WTA Auckland event due to title sponsorship is the ASB Classic and similarly the ATP Auckland event is the Heineken Open.

The Auckland Open is being held at the ASB Tennis Arena, 1 Tennis Lane in Parnell, just off Stanley Street in Auckland, New Zealand and the court surface is the same as the Australian Open, “True Blue” Plexicushion Prestige hard courts. The centre court holds 3,500 spectators, the total prize money for 2013 WTA event is $235,000 and was first held in 1986. The total prize money for 2013 ATP event is $433,400 and was first held in 1956.

The Auckland WTA event runs from the first day of qualifying on Saturday 29 December through to the Women’s Singles Finals day on Saturday 5 January. The 2012 women’s singles champion was ZHENG Jie who defeated Flavia PENNETTA in the final 2-6, 6-3, 2-0 retired to win 280 WTA ranking points.

The Auckland ATP event runs from the first day of qualifying on Saturday 5 January through to the Men’s Singles Finals day on Saturday 12 January. The 2012 men’s singles champion was David FERRER who defeated Olivier ROCHUS in the final 6-3, 6-4 to win his third Auckland singles title and defend his 2011 crown to retain his 250 ATP ranking points.
