Women’s 4th Round Singles Results:
In the main draw of the women’s singles event at the 2010 Australian Open the 4th round matches have been completed and now only 8 players remain. These 8 players are guaranteed 200,000 Australian dollars in prize money and 500 WTA ranking points for making the quarter finals.
In the top half of the draw all 4 remaining players are seeded players with Li Na’s 6-4 6-3 upset over No.4 seed Caroline Wozniacki as the highest seed to be toppled. For Li Na it is her 2nd consecutive quarter final in a Grand Slam singles event.
No.7 seed Victoria Azarenka won 10 games in a row in an inspired display after being down 4-6, 2-4 against No.9 seed Vera Zvonareva to win 4-6, 6-4, 6-0. The 20 year old Azarenka now plays in her 3rd Grand Slam singles quarter final after making the same round at the French Open and Wimbledon in 2009.
The Williams sisters both won through to within 1 more match win of another showdown. Serena defeated Sam Stosur 6-4 6-2 and Venus was too strong for No.17 seed Francesca Schiavone after the 1st set running away 3-6, 6-2, 6-1.
Below you will find the seeded players whose names have a line drawn through them because they were defeated in that section of the draw. The player’s name that is bolded is OCA’s prediction of who will win.

In the bottom half of the draw only 1 seed made it through after the No.2 and No.3 seeds were upset in the round of 16. Petrova continued her brilliant run defeating fellow Russian No.3 seed Svetlana Kuznetsova 6-3, 3-6, 6-1.
Petrova is pictured above after making contact with the ball with her forehand drive, if Petrova keeps up her Clijsters destroying form Henin will be her 2nd Belgian scalp. The other 3 players remaining are Wild Card entrant Justine Henin and 2 direct acceptances world No.35 Zheng Jie and world No.58 Maria Kirilenko.
No.2 seed Dinara Safina retired whilst trailing 5-4 in the 1st set to fellow Russian Maria Kirilenko. By making the quarter finals the 22 year old Kirilenko has achieved her career best result in a Grand Slam singles event.
The best performed Qualifier in this years women’s singles Yanina Wickmayer of Belgium was defeated in the 4th round by fellow Belgian and Wild Card Justine Henin 6-7 (3-7), 6-1, 3-6. The 26 year old Zheng Jie recorded her best result at the Australian Open by going one round further than in 2009 by defeating No.31 seed Alona Bondarenko 7-6 (7-5), 6-4.
