Women’s Singles Results:

In the main draw of the women’s singles event at the 2010 Australian Open the 3rd round matches have been completed. In the 4th round or round of 16 as it also known, only the 16 best performed players thus far remain.

These 16 players are guaranteed 89,000 Australian dollars in prize money and 280 WTA ranking points for making the round of 16. Those players who were knocked out in the 3rd round took home 52,000 Australian dollars. The best performed Wild Card and Qualifier are still alive in the draw but meet each other in the 4th round. 

The following is the list of players who are still undefeated, who they play next and which part of the draw they are in. Below you will find the  seeded players whose names have a line drawn through them because they were defeated in that section of the draw. The player’s name that is bolded is OCA’s prediction of who will win.

In the top half of the draw all of the 8 remaining players are seeded players. In the top half of the draw the round of 16 matches are:

In the bottom half of the draw 4 seeds made it through, with one Wild Card entrant Justine Henin, one qualifier Yanina Wickmayer and 2 direct acceptances. In the bottom half of the draw the round of 16 matches are:

Pictured above is No.4 seed Caroline Wozniacki setting the ball into position with precision to give herself the best chance to play one of her best serves. The 20 year old Dane was a runner-up in the most recent Grand Slam and looks set to put herself into contention for her 1st Grand Slam singles title.

Today’s POST is dedicated to Petr Korda. Korda was born on this day in 1968. The Czech won 1 Grand Slam singles title in 1998, the Australian Open. He first achieved his highest career ranking of World No.2 on 2 February 1998.
